Exploring object theatre and contemporary clowning, this show was first shown as a work in progress at the The 2010 International Student Puppet Festival. It was performed at the International Youth Arts Festival 2011 before being premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe
This is a story
about rubbish, in a way you have never seen it before. In a world where nothing
is what it seems, and everything is animated, the rubbish dump is a place where
laughter can be stumbled upon in the unlikeliest of places. During this
uplifting show, the everyday objects humanity discards come to life, whilst a
confused puppet in the middle tries to make sense of it all.
Street Dreams follows a bizarre day in the life of The Old Man. As he tries to go about his business, mischievous banana skins, aggressive plastic bags and a rubber glove with a nervous disposition are constantly pestering him. To what extremes will he have to go to find some peace and quiet?
The piece is articulated with live music and Foley sound influenced by Charlie Chaplin’s silent comedies and early Disney films. It combines our own form of Bunraku puppetry with contemporary clowning and abstract storytelling
