Workshops and Education
At the heart of Little Cauliflower’s latest work, is the ability to portray character without text. In our workshops we teach how physicality portrays character and combine this with object manipulation and puppetry skills. Through experimentation and play the participants will gain a well rounded understanding of the theatrical techniques we explore as a company.
"[the students] were fascinated and engaged throughout...
the workshop really captured their imaginations."

We are able to offer a variety of different workshops
tailored to your needs and groups ability. Here are some examples of
workshops we offer:
Puppetry & Object Manipulation:
This workshop approaches puppetry from two angles; using a puppet, and the puppeteer as a performer. We use exercises in character development with a specific look at the anatomy of the body and how it moves within a space.
Puppetry Construction (Street/Processional)
Similar to the Chinese Dragon at new year celebrations, in this workshop we build large processional puppets. The form these puppets take will come directly from the imaginations of the students, for example, animals, characters or figures from history. We end the day with our own miniature carnival in the playground or school hall!
Puppet Construction (Bunraku style)
The puppets we use are an adaptation of the Japanese Bunraku style of puppetry. Over this workshop, participants build their own puppets in small groups. All materials are provided. Little Cauliflower build all our own puppets from scratch. During the creation of the puppets, we will advise on animation and manipulation, as this is a vital part of building a successful puppet.
